At the outset, I feel fortunate to have various task management options available, something which I was carving for years. Some years back when Stephen covey's associate organization launched outlook plugin With software called "plan", I was pretty impressed, this plugin allowed us to segment task based on urgency and importance. I used to use windows mobile and there was software for mobile version, I was on cloud 9.
However neither that plugin nor windows mobile continue to keep me excited. Many flaws and I was always hanged-up. Outlook was the only option for me for years, There came Google Task, quick and easy, that’s it. It was just quick and easy, nothing more.
Recently, three task management tools have taken the market space Producteev, Wunderlist and Remember the Milk (though there are many, I have evaluated these three based on their popularity). All three offer great task management tools but all perform differently (with twist). In this review I am sharing my opinion about all three task management tools including Outlook and Gmail task.
Outlook Task. Days are gone for outlook task, now we need more customization and online options, which outlook fails to offer. It might be still best in terms of desktop software but it fail to impress as a task manager.
Gmail Task. Easy to use but it’s too simple, not much customization available. However, Google task is great if you just would like to have simple online, easily to manage task tools, Gmail task is for you. But compare to new task managements available in market, Google task stands nowhere.
Wunderlist. Truly wonderful tool. User-friendly, pretty easy to use, innovative, available on various platforms like Blackberry, windows, android and ios. The good thing about this tool is it is easy to use and seamless to setup. Completely free, hence it wins the battle in free task management tools. You can create unlimited workspace or team members. It offers great synchronization. However, there are few things missing in wunderlist no sync with gmail task, no outlook plugin and no immediate rescheduling by email, something which producteev has edge.
Producteev. Truly productive task management tool. It's filled with amazing features, great customization. It offers all most all what wunderlist and Remember the milk offers, on top of it they launched outlook sync tool as well as gmail task sync option. They also have apps for gmail domain email, something which I use and very happy with it. And the deadliest feature is email scheduling, rescheduling and update. You don’t need to sweat if you have to change deadline of your task, just send an email to existing task and shift deadline to "tomorrow" with ease. Did you finish your task just email with word "done", and hey you are done. Isn’t this great? Only cons are that blackberry apps isn't that great, it comes with name "taskee" Also if you wish to have more team members or workspace you would need to go for pro version. However, the free version is good enough if you do not have big team and if you wish to improve your day to day productivity. In my view producteev wins the battle of task management simply because it offers more options including synchronization and rescheduling through email update.
Remember the milk. It’s cute task management as the name suggests, it’s simple productive and useful tool. If you are not looking for complicated or advance task manager and if you are looking for a task management which reminds you basic things without much customization. RTM is easy tool for you available across the all platforms. Very easy to setup, easy synchronization, nothing to learn, just use it.
