Medical Tourism in Colombia

Similar to its South American counterparts, Colombia has begun to witness the massive potential that medical tourism has. Due to its late entry into the medical tourism market, its reputation as a health travel destination is slowly growing. With the government aggressively promoting the industry and the implementation of new strict standards of healthcare facility protocols, Colombia is set to take the medical industry by storm.

Similar to Brazil, Colombia is beginning to emerge as a prime region offering excellent cosmetic surgical procedures. They are also well known for the ophthalmologic, orthopedics and vascular surgeries but it seems plastic surgery is their forte. The South American region offers state-of-the-art hospitals and clinics, board-certified plastic surgeons and an exotic destination to avail healthcare.

Not to mention that the price of treatment is a fraction of what more developed countries would charge. According to the government statistics over 27,000 tourists came to Colombia in 2008 to benefit from the cost-effective medical services in the region,  majority  hail from the US, Mexico, Spain and Panama.
