Hospital infection control

The rate of hospital-acquired infections in most facilities is still at a level that is unacceptable. One of the biggest reasons for this is the lack of hand-washing by medical staff. Since patients come into close contact with healthcare providers, it is essential that all staff members are as germ-free as possible. Standards for hospital infection control have been distributed to most healthcare facilities but in the case of the majority of hospitals, there is still a low level of compliance. Also, there is a lack of documentation for the level of infection control in healthcare institutions.

After the regulations provided by an accredited organization however, a significant change in this attitude has been observed. Due to the standards implemented, all infection control problems are immediately documented, physicians and healthcare providers are required to follow proper hand hygiene protocols and programs to identify and proactively address infection risks are put into effect.  Accredited organizations require a coordinated mechanism for infection prevention activities with a designated team to oversee these measures. The team will then provide the necessary training, education and resources to ensure hospital infections are at the lowest rate possible.
