Healthcare in Germany

Healthcare System in Germany

Germany has one of the oldest healthcare systems in the world. Presently 85% of the population is covered by a basic health insurance plan provided by an order which provides a standard level of coverage.  The remaining population can voluntarily opt for private insurance which offers additional benefits.

Since majority of the Germans have some form of health coverage, there is high hospital density with twice as many hospitals per capita as the United States. The high hospital density results in shorter waitlists for treatment and the inter-facility competition brings healthcare costs down.

Quality of Healthcare in Germany

German hospitals follow the utmost international standards and are up-to-date with the latest medical equipments and technologies. As legislated by German law, German hospitals are required to undergo quality surveillance programs under government supervision. Additionally, physicians undergo a strict and rigorous training before they can practice in their specialization. There are 4 JCI accredited hospitals in Germany offering the highest level of medical services.

Hospitals in Germany are known for their exceptional services provided in the field of oncology. Germany has been regarded as one of the top countries for cancer treatment owing to its revolutionary procedures, alternative treatments and high document success rates.
