Healthcare in Cayman Islands

Healthcare System in the Cayman Islands

Health coverage in this region is compulsory for all Cayman Islands citizens as mandated by a law that became effective in 1997. This ensures access for the individuals residing on the islands. The law requires all residents to acquire health insurance that will be able to cover basic medical care.  The insurance premium is shared with the employer of the resident.

There is a disparity between the services provided within the public sector in comparison to the high quality care delivered by physicians hired in private facilities.

Quality of Healthcare in the Cayman Islands

A diverse range of healthcare services are available on the island of Grand Cayman. There are two integrative hospitals, several poly-clinics and a host of private physicians (that include specialists) that tend to the citizen and foreign paying patients.

In order to climb the popularity scale within the medical tourism industry, Cayman Islands have been attempting to begin the accreditation process to demonstrate the ability to compete with medical tourism facilities around the world. By taking into account patient safety, quality care and accountability, Cayman Islands could potentially be an important destination for medical tourism in the Caribbean.
