Juvenile Diabetes

Juvenile Diabetes ::

It is an autoimmune disorder of children triggered by environmental toxins or infectious virus which destroys beta cells and so pancreas cannot produce insulin. It is usually a hereditary form of diabetes.

The symptoms of juvenile diabetes are similar to type 2 diabetes but occur suddenly and can be fatal. Additionally, flu like symptoms, sweet breath odour and bedwetting can be seen in the child. If the urine test detects glucose and ketone bodies juvenile diabetes is diagnosed.

It is important to know that there is no cure for Juvenile diabetes. The only treatment is insulin injections or an insulin pump. One must check their blood sugar levels daily with a glucometer (often 3 times / day). Diet and exercise should be followed as part of management in this form of diabetes too.
